About the ILBF

Our aim is to:

  • identify, collect and send the most useful texts to those common law jurisdictions
  • further identify partners from those areas who otherwise could not afford these necessary texts
  • bring together key individuals and organisations from the UK, Africa, Asia and the Caribbean who share the purpose of this charity – to improve access to legal information/access to justice.

Feedback from partner organisations:

  • Catholic Diocese of Ndola-Paralegal Programme, Zambia (June 2009)
'The Paralegal Programme wishes to profoundly pass its gratitude for the enormous contribution towards this noble service of providing free legal aid/advice to the vulnerable in society. The donation will facilitate grounds on which legal knowledge is enhanced for the betterment of the lowly in society. It is commonly said that "You cannot bury a knowledgeable person". In that sense, this wide range of literature donated today will greatly make an effective contribution to the emancipation of mental, cultural and social slavery. On behalf of Management of the Paralegal Programme, I wish to sincerely express this honour given to us by the ILBF for this enormous donation. We do acknowledge the huge investment done so far for this unheard of contribution made to us, be it financially or materially at no any other time than this one when the whole world is undergoing financial crisis. It is our prayer that this partnership is just the beginning of better things to come and it will last for a taste of time.'
  • Kampala University, Uganda
‘These books will open doors of perception which is what a lawyer of quality must be armed with to help promote justice and rule of law … indeed our law shelves were on their deathbeds but have been given the kiss of life, thanks to ILBF.’
  • National Law Association of Zambia
‘They have made a big impact on our users, as they are latest editions and more people are now coming to the library, making the demand for more books very urgent.’
  • Swaziland Law Society
‘very good quality and helpful to attorneys … we are most grateful for this generous donation and hope that in 12 months we will have acquired more.’
  • National Association for Legal Assistance, Tanzania
‘Please forward our deepest gratitude to ILBF … we owe you much more. Be blessed.’
  • Malawi Human Rights Resource Centre
‘These books which we received are now being used and it is our hope that the relationship which exists between the Malawi Human Rights Resource Centre and the International Law Book Facility will grow from strength to strength.’

"The establishment of the rule of law is most obvious in underpinning individual liberty and democratic government, but the development of successful modern economies cannot take place without it. No judiciary can accomplish this task without the help of lawyers that have access to good libraries and good libraries themselves.”

The Rt. Hon. Lord Justice John Thomas, Judge of the Court of Appeal, UK
